Microschool

A microschool built to last the whole of elementary

Microschool usually means a small group of children, a small number of adults, and a school that starts because a few families wanted something that wasn't on offer. That describes us.

What we're adding is permanence. This is meant to be a school your child can finish: its own site, its own staff, and a Grade 6 to leave from.

What small actually buys you

A teacher who knows where every child is in every subject without having to look it up. That's the whole advantage, and everything else follows from it.

A child is taught what they're ready for and moves on once they've got it. An older child explaining something to a younger one is a normal part of the day, and explaining is where understanding gets tested.

Taught by a teacher

Reading, writing and mathematics are taught by a teacher, deliberately, to a standard, every day.

Software has its uses for practice and drill. Working out why a child is stuck needs an adult who knows them, and every group here has a teacher and an assistant.

Groups and numbers

Small groups, each with a teacher and an assistant. The exact numbers are being set with the founding families.

We'll publish the number once it's set, and it won't move afterwards without telling you why.

Questions about Microschool

Is a microschool a real school?

It varies, which is why the word alone tells you little. Ask whether it has its own site, whether it intends to run every grade it advertises, and what happens when the founder's own children move on. We're building for Kindergarten through Grade 6 with a site and staff of our own.

How is this different from a learning pod?

A pod is usually a private arrangement between a few families for as long as it suits them. This is a school with its own premises, its own teachers and a curriculum published to every family in it.

How many children in a group?

Not set yet, and we'd rather not invent a number. Each group has a teacher and an assistant, and the group size is one of the things the founding families settle with us before the first year.

Ask us about the school

Tell us about your family and what you'd like to know. We'll keep you posted as we choose a site, set tuition and open enrolment, and you can come off that list whenever you like.
