The Galt Academy is the school we want for our own children: somewhere they arrive keen, work hard at things worth doing, and leave better than they came.

Somewhere along the way, school became more like a daycare than a place of educational excellence. That level of excellence means reading, writing, mathematics and sciences taught to a high standard, with money and business, engineering, the outdoors, and health, nutrition and fitness as areas of focus. A child who is excited to go to school will be a child who is learning and performing at a high level.

That starts with letting kids be kids. Politics stays out of lessons here, in every direction, and the questions that belong to a family are left to the family.

We want to teach kids how to think, not what to think, so they can be independent individuals and successful in all areas of life.

The rest is the shape of the day. Children are not built to sit still for eight hours. Kids who are active are more engaged and have more fun. They learn more, they remember more, and they come home with contagious energy.

So lessons run outside whenever the weather allows, and children are up and moving for much of the day.

A growing number of families in Durham and the surrounding areas are asking for this kind of school, so we're building it for all of us.

We started The Galt Academy to build a society of individual thinkers who can compete, become the best versions of themselves, and build the best version of our civilization we're capable of.
